A lot of major websites are “going dark” on January 18 in protest over the internet bill SOPA, and this timeline shows you how the campaign has ramped up in the last week. Google is even planning a special doodle about SOPA tomorrow. (via TPM)

Brava to Reddit for leading the way. I also find it interesting that Reddit made its decision I believe mostly from pressure from the userbase, and Wikipedia had a vote on it— at the least, those two sites decided to protest to reflect the feelings of (the more active and vocal of) their users, not just on their own behalf.
Also, my local news is talking about Wikipedia shutting down as we speak, which is insane (though the news story is mostly about Wikipedia shutting down and they just gave like a one-sentence summary of what SOPA is that doesn’t really touch on the issues with the bill at all, and they didn’t mention PIPA at all…). Mainstream news wasn’t really talking about these bills at all before. So thanks Wikipedia.
